About the Concert
The Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra opens its season with two composers transforming what they inherited into something newly radiant. Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances, his final orchestral masterpiece, looks back across a lifetime of music with rhythmic vitality, mystery, and dark brilliance. Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé, Suite No. 2, begins in a shimmering dawn and surges toward an ecstatic final dance. Conductor Christian Olson leads a program of memory, myth, and orchestral color.

About the Conductor
Christian Olson is a conductor and vocal coach with a particular affinity for orchestral and operatic repertoire. His work combines close attention to musical history with vivid, direct communication in performance. Olson studied musicology at the University of North Texas and is completing a doctorate in conducting at Indiana University, where his research focuses on the music of Hector Berlioz.
