Alex Wen

Alex Wen serves as Artistic Director of the Jackson Heights Orchestra and appears regularly as a guest conductor with orchestras throughout New York. His conducting encompasses symphonic, operatic, and contemporary repertoire, reflecting a musical background that ranges from cornerstone orchestral works to world premieres and newly commissioned music.

Guest conducting engagements have included the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra, Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, Litha Symphony Orchestra, Sound Symphony Orchestra, the Rendez-Vous Orchestra, and Arknights Concert as part of Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City festival. He returns to the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra during the 2026–27 season. Earlier appointments included assistant and cover conducting positions with the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony and Massapequa Philharmonic.

Wen has led multiple world premieres and commissioned works through collaborations with living composers, including the New York premieres of works by Eric Moe and Huang Ruo. His contemporary music experience also includes work with PinkNoise Ensemble, Rhymes With Opera, and Fresh Squeezed Opera. Previously Principal Conductor of Golden Rose Opera, he conducted productions of La Bohème, Carmen, Suor Angelica, Cavalleria Rusticana, and Madama Butterfly, and later returned to Queens College to conduct Le nozze di Figaro.

Before focusing on conducting, Wen maintained an active career as a violist. He holds degrees from Queens College and Azusa Pacific University and participated in the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music Conductors Workshop.
